Company Background
James Lynn Builders was started by James Robert Allan Oliver and Lynn David Herman Jr. The two first met at Clemson University where they graduated from the construction science and management program. Allan and David stayed friends for the next several years as they began their careers. After years of working for other companies the pair decided that they had something unique to offer the renovation and addition market in the upstate of South Carolina.
Allan and David wanted to bring a higher level of professionalism to their clients and make the building process an easier and less stressful endeavor. The pair achieves this goal by clearly and honestly communicating with clients, planning projects early rather than reacting to problems, only accepting the highest quality of work, and utilizing a skilled and trustworthy base of subcontractors and suppliers.
About the Owners
Allan Oliver
Originally from Atlanta, Allan came from a family with ties in the construction and real estate fields. Allan made his way to Greenville and began his building career in earnest after graduating from Clemson. He spent three years with a custom home builder and then five years with a renovation contractor. While doing new construction Allan, managed the building of homes ranging from $250,000 to $500,000. For the renovation contractor he managed everything from small repairs to $800,000 renovations and additions. This blend of experience gives Allan and James Lynn Builders the ability to excel at updating and adding to older homes as well as new home construction.
Allan is highly proficient in SketchUp, a 3D design software, which allows owners to get a feel for how their home is going to look before their project even begins. This is very important in the more detailed areas of a home, like kitchens and bathrooms, and it is also an important tool for visualizing how additions will work with the existing home.
Outside of his building career, Allan spent the last three years helping his wife and her business partner start and grow their business, the Swamp Rabbit Café and Grocery. This gives Allan a wealth of community ties and business experience that is a huge benefit to James Lynn Builders.
David Herman
David grew up in Cary, North Carolina and showed an early interest in construction which transitioned into a major in construction science and management at Clemson University. After college he spent a year and a half working for a custom home builder where he managed the construction of luxury homes from $800,000 to $2 million. David then spent the next six years working for an industrial construction company where he worked on projects throughout the southeastern United States. Those projects ranged from $1 million up to $100 million and were located at power plants and industrial facilities. These projects required a huge amount of up front planning and organization to be completed successfully.
David employs his skills in planning, scheduling, and budgeting to keep James Lynn and its clients organized and on track to a successful project. David also uses the accounting knowledge and business experience gained from working at larger companies and puts much of his focus into the business operations of James Lynn Builders.
